A Infotainment system packed with 2025 safety features in the 2025 Toyota 4Runner in Kent, OH

Toyota is committed to your driving safety, and they’ve engineered an advanced safety suite that warns you of potential danger. These systems use cameras, sonar, and radar to identify threats that could lead to accidents and alert you so you can take appropriate action and avoid them. As your Toyota dealership, we want to tell you how some of these safety features work.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Braking (PCS w/PB)

This system uses radar sensors in the front bumper and a camera positioned in your cabin near the top of the windshield to monitor the road ahead. It’s capable of detecting and identifying vehicles, motorcyclists, bicyclists, pedestrians, and animals 100 to 200 feet in front, then comparing the distance to your speed to determine if you’re closing too fast.

You receive visual and audio warnings if a collision risk exists, giving you sufficient time to brake or take evasive action and prevent an accident. Research shows some drivers can panic or freeze, preventing them from hitting the brakes in time, so the system has a failsafe. If you don’t apply the brakes, the system will automatically engage emergency braking to quickly stop your Toyota and prevent a collision.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)

This feature is active at speeds above 30 mph and uses a dedicated camera to identify lane line markings and road edge markers. Once the markings have been noted, the system works to keep you safely in your lane center. If your wheels inadvertently stray toward the lane borders, you’ll receive audio and visual warnings to alert you to turn back.

If your Toyota continues to head toward the lane border, the system gently turns the steering wheel to direct your vehicle toward the lane center. This system temporarily deactivates if your direction indicator is on, and you’re actively steering toward the lane boundary.

Road Sign Assist (RSA)

Sometimes, you might see a particular road sign, and this can cause a problem. If you don’t see a speed reduction sign, for example, you could receive a citation for speeding. RSA prevents this by scanning for signs and displaying an icon of any sign it detects on your front screen.

Automatic High Beams (AHB)

This system saves you time and prevents distraction by switching your headlights to low beams when necessary. It uses sensors to identify other vehicles’ headlights or tail lights, then automatically switches to low beams until the light source disappears. Automatic switching prevents you from needing to look down to switch the lights manually, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.
